Kent Scheme Pay: April 2019
It is proposed that from 1st April the minimum Kent Range salary will increase to £9 per hour. This is in excess of the new national living wage minimum of £8.21 and reflects the Local Authority’s commitment to move towards paying the equivalent of the Living Wage.
The increases to the minimum / maximum of the other pay bands and the TCP ratings are yet to be determined.
All Kent Maintained schools (Community, Controlled, Foundation and Aided Schools) are required to apply the increase and new grade bandings.
Kent Academies which follow Kent Scheme Conditions of Service have discretion as to whether to apply these increases.
Where a school follows a September pay and appraisal cycle – they should ensure that no member of staff is paid less than the new grade minimum from April 2019. This increase should be offset against any performance related increase awarded in September.
As in previous years all schools and academies will continue to be able to exercise local discretion regarding the TCP ratings applied to each of the performance ratings where they have made provision within their pay policy to do so.
Kent Scheme Terms and Conditions: Annual Leave Entitlement
From 1st April 2019 Annual Leave provision for certain support staff will be enhanced. The new arrangements will benefit lower grades, specifically KR2-KR7 and also roles graded at KR9.

These enhanced annual leave provisions will also apply to the paid leave awarded to staff who are contracted for less than 52 weeks a year. Where an employee works between 38 and 44 weeks a year the paid annual leave entitlement will increase from 1st April 2019 as follows:

Over 5 years’ service
Maintained School’s who purchase InetPay will have these changes to the minimum range and annual leave applied automatically. Those schools that do not use IntePay should ensure they advise their own payroll adviser of the necessary changes.All Kent Maintained schools (Community, Controlled, Foundation and Aided Schools) are required to apply the increased annual leave entitlement from 1st April.
Academies which follow Kent Scheme Conditions of Service have discretion as to whether to adopt these increased leave provisions and therefore should advise IntePay (or their alternative payroll provider) of the changes they wish to implement to leave and the minimum range.
