Launch of Model Recruitment Policy

We are pleased to announce the launch of the model Recruitment Policy and Guidance Notes for Managers for use in Schools and Academies. 

This is a new addition to our suite of model HR policies and covers the process from before the decision to advertise through producing the job description, person specification and advert; the shortlisting and selection process and pre-employment checks; to induction.  The policy has been developed to support Schools and Academies to successfully make the right recruitment decisions whilst complying with:

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • The Equality Act 2010
  • Disqualification under the Childcare Act 2006 (DUCA)
  • Prevent Duty Guidance for England and Wales 2015
  • Guidance published by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

The document is divided into two parts: Part A is the policy document which provides a framework for the recruitment and selection of staff, and Part B which sets out more detailed guidance about how to go about successful recruitment and selection which complies with legislation, regulations and best practice.

The Local Authority expects that all KCC Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools will use this document as the basis for their Recruitment Policy. This document is also strongly recommended for consideration for adoption by Foundation and Aided Schools and Academies. 

This document has been shared with representatives of KCC’s recognised professional associations for comment. Schools are advised to ensure staff and unions have the opportunity to comment on the proposed Recruitment Policy prior to the document being formally adopted by Governors.
