Reporting Child Protection Allegations against staff

Kent Schools and Academies are reminded of the importance of seeking initial guidance from the Local Authority Dedicated Officer (LADO) team where an allegation against a staff member relates to a potential child protection concern.

Before any action is taken internally – an initial referral to the LADO team is advised in instances where it is alleged that an employee has:

  • Behaved in a way that has harmed or may have harmed a child
  • Possibly committed an offence against or related to a child
  • Behaved towards a child in a way that would indicate they pose a risk of harm to children if they work regularly or closely with them

The LADO team are able to assist schools to assess whether a concern should be escalated and managed as a child protection issue or whether it is more appropriate for the school to manager the concern as an employment matter.

The Kent LADO team can be contacted via a single central contact number 03000 410 888 or via email  A referral form should be completed for each case referred to the team.

Schools are also advised to make their SPS Consultant aware of any allegations against staff which are to be referred to the LADO team.

For further details and to access the referral form please refer to  the LADO guidance on Kelsi.
