Teachers Pay

Every year the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) publishes a report containing recommendations regarding teachers’ pay for the forthcoming academic year.

The STRB was expected to publish its recommendations regarding teachers’ pay for 2018 earlier this month.  However as the end of the current school year fast approaches we are still awaiting this report and Secretary of State for Education’s response.

This is likely to mean that the 2018 School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, which will confirm any uplift to the national salary ranges for teachers, is likely to be published a little later this year too.

Once the 2018 STPCD is published Governors and School Leaders will need to ensure they review their current pay policy and pay ranges to reflect any national changes to these salary ranges from September 2018 and to determine the level of pay increase to be awarded in their school. Pay increases from 1st September for Teachers and Leadership Teachers should be determined in line with your school’s pay policy following end of year appraisal meetings early in the autumn term.

If your School or Academy purchases our HR Administration or Intepay service you will shortly receive details of this year’s Teacher Salary Assessment process which will need to be completed in order to advise SPS of the pay increase awarded to the teachers in your school.

Schools are advised not to make any decisions regarding pay increases until this year’s STPCD is published. Should you wish these increases to be actioned in time for the September pay run you are asked to return the completed salary assessments no later than 7th September this year. Assessments returned after this date will be processed as soon as possible and an increase backdated to 1st September.

Schools who use alternative payroll providers should ensure they have appropriate arrangements in place to notify these organisations of any pay increase awarded.

Once the STRB report is available it will be published on the School Teachers’ Review Body pages of the DfE.

We will of course keep you updated with any further announcements regarding Teachers’ Pay throughout the school closure period so keep checking back for the latest news regarding these important changes.

In the meantime please do contact us should you have any further questions.
