The DfE has confirmed that it intends to fund the increase in employer pension contributions to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme from September 2019.
From this date employer contributions will rise from the current rate of 16.48% to 23.6%.
In the response to the recent pension contribution consultation the Dfe stated its intention to provide additional funding for Maintained Schools until March 2020 and Academies until August 2020. Any extension to funding beyond this date is subject to the outcome of a government spending review later this year.
Mainstream schools will receive funding based on pupil numbers – although the details of the exact allocations for each school and date of payment are yet to be published. A supplementary fund will also be available for schools to make an application for additional funding where their grant allocation falls short of the increased costs.
