Governing bodies are responsible for working with the School to ensure that it delivers a good quality education - raising standards of achievement for all pupils. An oversight of HR is a key facet of the varied roles and responsibilities of modern day governorship. Alongside agreeing the outcomes from the School’s self-evaluation and ensuring they are used to inform the priorities in the School Development Plan (SDP); it is critical that the School meets its statutory obligations to its employees and that HR policy and practice aligns with the SDP e.g. performance management.

This series has been specifically designed for governors to serve as a best practice guide to understanding the governor’s role in HR matters and in chairing and supporting HR hearings and appeals including disciplinary and capability hearings and pay appeals; enabling you to make good decisions. These sessions can be delivered face to face or via webinar to suit your needs.
From time to time clerks might be required to support governors at hearings and appeal panels relating to personnel issues; a disciplinary hearing or pay appeal for example. This workshop provides clerks with an awareness of the respective procedures and outlines the shape of a hearing or appeal panel meeting. The role and value of the clerk will also be highlighted; knowledge which will enable clerks to support effectively in this area.
